Review: Provisions of Arrowtown

Provisions sits just on the outskirts from the centre of town and is somewhere that we walk past on an extremely frequent basis. Time after time we used to comment “oh we must go there” but we always ended up forgetting about it when it came time to eat, finding ourselves somewhere on the main street instead.

Not this time though. We walked past Provisions after taking the dog for a walk, stopping in to take a look at the menu. It was DIVINE. The sticky buns looked sensational (and so they should, when the sign out front praises them so highly) as did the donuts, and there were so many other options that I knew I would be tempted by. We raced home with the dog and then set out on a lunch date.

To my dismay, by the time we got back the donuts had sold out. I guess that helped with our decision-making: to start I had the lamb burger and Andy had the pancakes. Both were extremely large meals with generous servings of bacon (pancakes) and fries (burger). Unfortunately the start became the end, when it became quite clear that we would not be able to squeeze in any dessert. We stared longingly at the stick buns and vowed to come back soon.

Provisions of Arrowtown is such a cute little spot with a spacious and (in the summer) sun-lit court-yard. It would be a perfect place to take the dog and sit outside if the weather had been warmer. It’s not just a cafe, rather Provisions also sells baked breads to take away, as well as a range of other goodies including chutneys and jams, pastry cases and other cute bits and pieces for cooking.
