Recipe: Chocolate & Avocado Mousse

Yum. This mousse is absolutely delightful – you would have no idea that it isn’t full of all things bad for you, and that in fact, it contains avocado – which is a delicious food high in all the right fats. The avocado gives the mousse a rich, creamy texture and the addition of chocolate means the taste is in no way compromised. It is also super easy to make – just chuck it in the blender and you are good to go! Unlike regular mousse however, I wouldn’t recommend it three days later; it loses its appeal a bit once the avocado starts browning and the taste starts coming through.

  • 55 g dark chocolate
  • 1 ripe avocado
  • 4 T coconut milk
  • 4 t maple syrup
  • 1/2 t vanilla
  • pinch salt
  • 1/2 t chilli (optional)
  • grated chocolate and coconut to garnish

  1. Melt the chocolate over heat (it is possible to use the microwave, but just be careful that it doesn’t burn).
  2. Blend the avocado. Add the coconut milk, maple syrup, vanilla extract and salt.
  3. Add chocolate last.
  4. Put into glasses, garnish and then refrigerate until serving.
