Louis Sergeant (146 Featherston Street)
A French patisserie that rivals every other, this place excels not just in croissants and macarons, but everything in between. The standout for me is the coconut hot chocolate (dairy free) and any of the sweet treats in the cabinet (I try not to have the same thing twice, because everything is outstanding). Truly, the cabinet is so extravagant that it almost looks like the treats couldn’t possibly be edible. The croissants and macarons really are some of the best you will find in Wellington. Only recently, Louis Sergeant has removed its extremely competent brunch/lunch menu (my favourite being the haloumi, fig and rocket baguette) and replaced it with a savoury cabinet instead – interesting, the dishes look like the desserts do, but are in fact savoury. Louis Sergeant is renown for its High Tea, therefore you often need to book if you plan on going during the weekends. Sadly, it isn’t open for dinner.
Picture below (left) is their recent Wellington on a Plate dishes for 2016. The Bourguignon Pot Pie (beef, mushrooms, bacon) was perfect for the cold winter’s day, and the duck confit burger quickly established itself to be a front-runner in the burger competition. Yum!
