Review: Me & You

Me & You (58 First Ave, Tauranga)

As Cafe 88‘s sister cafe, I was pretty excited when Mum suggested we head there for brunch. If it was half as good as Cafe 88, I was pretty sure that I would still enjoy myself. The place was absolutely packed, but we somehow managed to squeeze a table for four out on the front deck. Like Cafe 88, the counter was absolutely packed to the brim with delicious goodies, ranging from cakes and slices (some healthy, some not so), salads, paninis and wraps. The blackboard menu was also pretty extensive (word of advice, there seems to be on the blackboard menu then there does on their printed menu, so make sure you double check you haven’t missed anything!), with a slight Asian fusion theme going on.

The boys ordered burgers and chips, which came out pretty massive! I wanted to order something smaller so that I had room for dessert afterwards – preferably the carrot cake! I had pork bao buns and Mum ordered spring rolls. All of our meals were delicious, and the coffee was undeniably good. I was a bit disheartened when I realised that I was so full that I had no room for dessert, but took comfort in knowing that the size of the carrot cake pieces were actually probably a whole other meal in itself!

Scrolling through Trip Adviser I saw that a number of people had commented on the poor service received when they visited Me & You, and I am pleased to report that I experienced nothing of the sort. It seems like the kind of place that is always super busy, so I guess the staff may seem a little rude during those peak stressful times, but when we were there we had none of that.

Cafe 88 will continue to be my local, mainly due to proximity reasons but whenever I’m over in Tauranga I’ll be sure to remember that Me & You exists!
