Mr Go’s (59 Taranaki Street)

A recent addition to Wellington’s modern Asian dining scene, I was highly skeptical of the place due to its green and pink (tacky) exterior. However, I was recommended it by some foodie friends of mine, and was keen to give it a try. The slightly odd decor grew on me over the course of my meal. Most of the plates are small to medium sized, ideal for sharing with friends and there is a great selection of beer available (as well as wine and cider). I wasn’t a huge fan of the squid, however both the popcorn chicken and popcorn cauliflower were delicious, as were all of the baos (I only tried the pork belly – pictured above – but it was the highlight of my night). Not too expensive, and very quick service – great for a pre-show meal. A somewhat surprising, but good addition to Wellington’s culinary scene.
