Review: Bambuchi

There is a definite lack of restaurants in the suburb of Hataitai when it comes to Friday-night date-night, but Bambuchi is seeking to change that. It is pretty small and easy to miss, except for its neon green sign outside. It serves both brunch and dinner; on Sundays there is also a pop-up pizzeria from 5.30pm.

The plates are designed for sharing. There are a few starter style dishes, a few different meat dishes, vegetarian and some sides. Of course, there are a few desserts on the menu as well. They recommended to us that we ordered a minimum of two dishes per person. Between us we opted to share the toffee roast potatoes, curried sauteed vegetables, lamb shoulder and market fish. There was a decent selection of drinks – we shared a Garage Project IPA that we hadn’t seen before.

The service was great, our waitress was very attentive and willing to meet our requests. We couldn’t fault the food – every dish was delightful and we agreed that overall there was plenty. It was a bit pricey though, although perhaps by just a few dollars.

I look forward to trying their brunch food sometime soon!
