Review: Fan-Tan

Fan-Tan is a wonderfully vibrant, modern restaurant in the heart of Arrowtown paying homage to the delights of Asian cuisine. It is a yummy restaurant, but also makes for a great spot for a cocktail. It’s not the cheapest place I have ever been, but the prices were well worth it.

It’s always busy (so it definitely pays to book) but fortunately the service is awesome, so it doesn’t even feel like you have to wait. Seating wise, there are a number of options including sitting at the bar or outside (don’t worry, blankets are available).

The menu is definitely best shared and it is recommended you get about 2 dishes per person. I would definitely ask about the specials, as these change frequently and tend to be highly delicious. We went as a group of four and tried to order a wide variety of food so that we could try as much as possible.

I highly recommend the Kung Pao chicken, but I thought the goat curry was perhaps a little bland. The edamame, sauteed vegetables, dumplings and lamb bao buns were all exceptional. I hear the duck pancakes are meant to be sensational (and they looked very cool in their bamboo baskets).
