Review: Hawker Hall

Chapel Street in Windsor is such an exciting area in Melbourne; I love wandering up and down the streets ogling at all the yummy food options. This time it was Hawker Hall which tickled my fancy, funnily enough it was only the night before I dined at Chin Chin, the owners of Hawker Hall.

Not surprisingly, the food at Hawker Hall and Chin Chin are similar (that is, Asian fusion) as is the fast-paced, hectic ambience. Hawker Hall is designed to feel more bustling I think, and it is less classy than Chin Chin with more of a street food/canteen vibe. It is extremely fun!

We had to wait an hour for a table at Hawker Hall, which shouldn’t be a problem given the huge number of bars in the vicinity to wait at. Unfortunately our group tried to wait at Boston Sub, a neighbouring bar which was so small that we were still in line for that when we got the phone call telling us our table was ready!

With a menu best shared, we ordered a range of dishes with varying meats and of varying sizes. Again, the plates are quite small, but you can definitely order strategically if cost is an issue. Our waitress was also super clued up when it came to making recommendations, which made our choices easy.

All in all, Hawker Hall is a very fun night out with a great atmosphere and yum food. It can be pretty loud so I’m not sure it is the best place for a first date, but with a group of pals you’ll be in for a fabulous time!
