Scroggin Cafe opened while I was living in Canada so I had earmarked it for a visit for a long time before I actually made it there! Lucy, the superstar behind the cafe, was in my profs group in Wellington (yes, law) and I think she already knew that she was going to end up in food someday. So I was very excited to visit the cafe and try it for myself!
It has a super location in Wanaka; a light airy space that sprawls out onto a patio and lawn. There is a giant wooden map with lots of New Zealand adventure spots on show and a corner dedicated to merchandise – beanies, hoodies and some cool outdoorsy stuff too.
I have been twice now and have been careful to order different things each time. Everything I have tried is inventive, fresh and beautifully presented. Andy claims, and you won’t find me disagreeing, that it was one of the best chocolate chip cookies we have ever had. It probably helps that it came fresh out of the oven, but the chocolate on the top was just so decadent.
Scroggin is an extremely pleasant place to sit and enjoy the world over some tasty coffee and food. I love finding good cafes in small towns and this is one that I would be happy to make recommendations about!
