The Chop Shop

The Chop Shop Food Merchants (44 Buckingham Street)

Another one of Arrowtown’s hidden gems, The Chop Shop sits as the second story at the top of an alleyway. It’s interior is super funky, quite rustic feeling, with a balcony that overlooks the alley. I had a special appreciation of the lights (pictured below) where the shade/chandelier bit is actually made from bike chains.

We had to wait about 20 minutes for a table of 4 (which wasn’t too bad given it was a Saturday morning) but the staff were really accommodating and we were sat on the comfy couches to wait, just sipping on coffee. The menu was Asian themed (probably not surprising, given the name) and was very fresh sounding. I was there as part of a group, and everyone ordered differently which was great for seeing some of the different items on the menu. We’d also agreed to share, which was beneficial for me because they actually forgot my meal meaning I would have had to wait! They were really good about though, and refused to charge us for the meal at the end (even though it hadn’t affected us at all).

Prices were pretty standard, and the meal portion size was substantial. I really rated the fish tacos, and didn’t enjoy the Bang Bang chicken salad nearly so much (although still had good points to it).
